Two Mountaineer Bowlers Advance to State Singles
The Mountaineer Co-Op Bowling team competed in Individual Regionals on Saturday. Out of 58 girls and 70 boys the top seven from each advance to the state finals. The Mountaineer co-op team is sending one boy (Blake Flaminio finishing 3rd) and one girl (Emily Lautzenheiser finishing 6th). We were the only school from the U.P. to accomplish this! The two will be competing for the state Singles title in Waterford MI next Saturday. Way to go Mountaineers!
The boys team and the girls team both finished 5th out of 12 schools on Friday in Bowling Regionals in Gaylord, Michigan. Way to go Mountaineers!

Don't forget to vote TOMORROW- TUESDAY!
We remind local families to show up to the voting booths on Tuesday, February 27 to vote for a renewal on the current School Resource Officer millage!
Without the renewal of this millage, we will lose our district's valuable School Liaison Officer.
Iron Mountain Public Schools has had a Liaison Officer for over sixteen years and would suffer significantly without this valuable position. Please show up to the polls on February 27 and vote in favor of the renewal. Thank you!
A message from School Nurses Cookie and Rachel
- It is important that the student first check-in at the office to be evaluated by a nurse or staff member at which time a parent may be called to decide if the student needs to go home. Students may NOT leave the school premises without checking out in the school office.
- Please keep in mind that students need to be free of fever without fever-reducing medication, vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24 hours before the student can return to school.

North Elementary School Citizenship Award
First grade student Gus H. was caught spreading kindness throughout his class and following the rules! North Elementary School is hosting a Citizenship Award "competition" for students from early kindergarten through fourth grade. Students are nominated by educational assistants in the school, and put into a drawing for the chance to be driven to school by School Liaison Officer Opolka in his police car. Gus and his sister Bella rode to school in Officer Opolka's car last week!
Way to go Gus, we are so proud of you! And a special thank you to Office Opolka for helping celebrate and encourage our students' warm-heartedness and goodwill!

Remembering IM Superintendent Dick Allen
In Memory of Superintendent Richard “Dick” Havely Allen
The Board of Education and staff of Iron Mountain Public Schools honor and remember the late Mr. Richard “Dick” Havely Allen. Mr. Allen had a long and successful career as a teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent at Iron Mountain Public Schools. His long standing career at IMHS had a remarkable impact, serving as mentor, coach, friend, and colleague to hundreds of students and staff that walked the halls.
Mr. Allen’s passion was athletics. He received several Oakland County and State honors as a three sport high school standout excelling in football, basketball, and track. He went on to NMU in 1956, where he was recruited for football and track and earned his bachelor’s degree with a major in speech and English. He was inducted into the NMU Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
In his retirement, Mr. Allen and his wife enjoyed traveling, hosting family meals, spending time with their grandchildren, and spending time at camp. They especially enjoyed taking an evening cruise on the pontoon boat.
There was a visitation and service held on Saturday, February 17 and Mr. Allen was buried in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. Condolences can be expressed to the family online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com.
Thank you to Mr. Richard “Dick” Allen and his family for his service to Iron Mountain Public Schools.
